For the JAMB 2025 French exam, the areas of concentration include four main topics: written comprehension in French, principles governing the structure and use of written French, workings of French sounds, and culture and civilization.
In the area of written comprehension in French, candidates will be tested on their ability to understand written French texts on topics of general and emergent interest. These topics could include love, life, death, politics, marriage, health, communication, child trafficking, cultism, travel, corruption, money laundering, and more.
In the principles governing the structure and use of written French section, candidates will be tested on their knowledge of basic form classes, assessment of vocabulary span, the importance of word order, identification and application of basic processes in language structure, and the use of French in set expressions such as proverbs, idioms, and conventional structures as provided for in common speech acts.
The workings of the French sounds section will test candidates’ ability to discriminate French sounds, understand letter-sound correspondence, identify syllables, understand liaison, sense groups in reading, identify faux amis, and determine similarity in sounds.
Finally, the culture and civilization section will test candidates’ understanding of the characteristics, aspects, similarities, and differences of the educational system, socio-economic life, political organization, and cultural life of Francophone Africa and France, with reference (where possible) to their home country, i.e. Nigeria.
